This sophisticated hand thrown shallow serving bowl is perfect for everything from displaying fruit to serving pastas or salads. The unglazed exterior is a characteristic used to show off the simple lines of its pure form.
Motivated by being able to infuse more character into each piece through the hand-crafted process, sculptor and designer Julian Sainsbury set up his own artisan workshop in 2013. Some of his pieces are made by hand on a jolley machine, a device that forms clay into a spinning mould; while others are hand thrown on a potter’s wheel. The porcelain used is a beautiful soft white and preferred for it’s strength and durability. The strength comes from firing it at an extremely high temperature. Julian’s design style is utilitarian but his ceramics boast with character and charm.
