Mategot Trolley in Cream White Semi Matt By Mathieu Mategot for Gubi
28.75" W x 24.4" D x 26.25" H
$1,500
The spacious Matégot Trolley is adorned with two trays, the upper available in the different colours and the lower in black and includes a newspaper holder that proves, with its bent metal design, the technique's strength of being flexible as tulle and strong as metal. The lightness it evokes is improved by its rolling castors and makes it float along the floor.
Mathieu Matégot was a French-Hungarian designer and artist, born in 1910 in Hungary and later moving to France, where he became known for his innovative furniture designs in the mid-20th century. His unique style, which combined traditional materials such as metal and wood with modern techniques like perforation and bending, set him apart from his contemporaries and made him a key figure in the design world of the time. Matégot's work was influenced by the functionalist movement, but he also drew inspiration from nature, which is evident in his use of organic shapes and motifs in his designs. Matégot's most famous pieces include the "Copacabana" chair and his "Kangourou" coffee table, which feature his signature perforated metal work. He also designed lighting fixtures, shelves, and screens, and his designs were exhibited at major design events such as the Milan Triennale and the Salon des Arts Ménagers in Paris. Matégot's designs are still highly sought after today, and his work continues to inspire contemporary designers around the world. His legacy as a pioneer of modern furniture design has firmly established him as one of the most important designers of the 20th century.
