Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, a dutch architect and furniture designer, was born on June 24, 1888. Rietveld spent his entire life in Utrecht, the city of his birth. His early career was as a draftsman in a goldsmith workshop. By 1917, he had opened his own furniture venture. Associated with the De Stijl movement, his progressive approach to architecture and furniture made a huge impact in Holland and beyond, and still serves as inspiration to the modern-day Dutch Design movement.
Cassina was established in 1927 in the Northern region of Brianza, Italy, an area noted for its skilled artisans and woodworkers. Rooted in high quality Italian craftsmanship Cassina began acquiring licenses to reproduce some of the world’s most well renowned furniture designs. The incredible quality of materials leads to the most amazing expression of form and function celebrating new design as well as highlighting notable designs of the past.
