PK9 chair by Poul Kjaerholm for Fritz Hansen fully upholstered in a limited selection of leather while the base is made of satin brushed stainless steel and the inner shell is made of nylon. The PK9 chair can also be perfectly matched to the PK54 table.
Also known as the "Tulip chair", the PK9 chair received its name due to its unique shape. The shape is characterized by the three pieces of satin-brushed stainless steel that act as a column, a set of legs and carriers of the leather seating element. The inspiration for the shape of the shell comes from the imprint of his wife's behind in the sand on the beach. Later, during the design process Poul Kjaerholm made his wife sat in boxes of clay to find the most optimal and comfortable solution.
With a love for minimalism, Danish designer Poul Kjaerholm designed his pieces with an understated and elegant fashion, finding preference for steel, which he combined with materials such as leather, wicker, marble and wood. Kjaerholm's work has been described as modest in means but rich in expression, while he always considered function and comfort.
