Motivated by being able to infuse more character into each piece through the hand-crafted process, sculptor and designer Julian Sainsbury set up his own artisan workshop in 2013. Some of his pieces are made by hand on a jolley machine, a device that forms clay into a spinning mould; while others are hand thrown on a potter’s wheel.
The porcelain used is a beautiful soft white and preferred for it’s strength and durability. The strength comes from firing it at an extremely high temperature. Julian’s design style is utilitarian but his ceramics boast with character and charm.
